Inadvertent face monster.

Apparently I can't be trusted to layer things properly in Photoshop.

(consider this a mildly horrifying teaser for what's to come)

Laura's birthday!

I have a friend whose name is Laura. Coincidentally, it also happens to be her birthday today! How weirdly fitting. :)

Happy birthday again!

Christmas cards.

Nearly six months late? Don't mind if I do.

All drawn by hand on blank A5 cards. There were envelopes as well, but those have the recipients' full names so I'm a little hesitant to share.

Things I enjoy: drawing dinosaurs.

Things I enjoy drawing: dinosaurs.
A Christmassy riff on this Hobbit poster.

The inside and outside, respectively, of the first card I made. Also the only one I couldn't actually scan.

 *rocket noises*

There were more, but these were the ones that took well to scanning.

Now for a twelve-month wait before I get around to putting this year's cards up!

Odyssey drawings.

Time to dig into the archives again.

These are from the same time period (ca. three years ago?) as my Antigone stuff, so the style's a bit foreign to me now. I was also majorly into Noelle Stevenson's art back then so a great deal of the visuals take after her. You're awesome, Noelle! (Please don't hurt me.)

Anyhow, we read The Odyssey and were assigned creative projects to do and these just kind of happened. No digital colouring because it's late / they look nice as-is? Mostly the first, though, if we're being honest.

Also it's been forever since Homer and I don't know what order they're supposed to be in anymore. The following descriptions are done from memory, so I apologise in advance for shoddiness.

I. Aeolus / Aiolos

Ruler of the winds. Gave Odysseus a bagful of the stuff to speed his journey home, but was not impressed when they fetched up in his court again sans bag and sans convincing explanation.

II. Charybdis / Kharybdis

Big swirly whirlpool monster. Fun to draw, not fun to be suspended above (I assume). Spot the naked Odysseus clinging to a convenient tree.

III. Laestrygonians / Laistrygonians

Shouty people. Rocks. Devastation. Odysseus' ship is the only one of his fleet to make it out intact, but it capsizes shortly afterwards under the weight of a class action lawsuit.

IV. Sirens / Seirenes

Pretty bird-ladies with a taste for flesh. Odysseus stopped everyone else's ears up with wax except for his own, then tied himself to the mast to hear them sing. It is too late for wit. Let me sleep.

Please, let me sleep.

The Saint illustrations.

While I'm up and anxious, have some illustrations I did for The Saint. (Apologies for lack of commentary, by the way. Exams are fun.)

Time to clock out.

Animal arm procrastination things.

Not my arm, mind.

This has been a post.

Pixel stuff.

Superbrothers is pretty rad. Although they're best known for the lovely Sword & Sworcery EP game released back in 2011, they've also been responsible for some really great retro pixel art.

Insert me and my relentless cribbing, and also an article for the Albany Parker about library habits, and you get:

And now back to the revision hole for me.

Faces.

Has it really been a year since the last post? I'm honestly sorry about that, guys. Uni's been magical and also kind of a massive time suck, so I haven't really been drawing that much despite getting a graphics tablet that actually works (plus a recent little thing called "access to Photoshop").

That said, impending exams (T-17 days!) means that it's clearly time to start digging things out and posting them up. Here's a couple lovelies I doodled last summer and colourised in a fit of madness some two hours ago.

Fun context: I worked at a kids' camp last June where we helped them make dreamcatchers out of paper plate edges. After cutting out some sixteen-odd plate centres using safety scissors and sitting on a tiny chair, I figured the least I could do was take the things home and draw on them a little.

Hence why most of the hair features have circular edges, or why this guy's tentacles and sunglasses just end all of a sudden off his face. (Just imagine an invisible beanie or something.)

Plus, you know, cyclops.

Cyclops with well-trimmed beard!

Non-cyclops with impressive teeth!

Have a nice day, y'all.
