Laura's birthday!

I have a friend whose name is Laura. Coincidentally, it also happens to be her birthday today! How weirdly fitting. :)

Happy birthday again!

Christmas cards.

Nearly six months late? Don't mind if I do.

All drawn by hand on blank A5 cards. There were envelopes as well, but those have the recipients' full names so I'm a little hesitant to share.

Things I enjoy: drawing dinosaurs.

Things I enjoy drawing: dinosaurs.
A Christmassy riff on this Hobbit poster.

The inside and outside, respectively, of the first card I made. Also the only one I couldn't actually scan.

 *rocket noises*

There were more, but these were the ones that took well to scanning.

Now for a twelve-month wait before I get around to putting this year's cards up!

Odyssey drawings.

Time to dig into the archives again.

These are from the same time period (ca. three years ago?) as my Antigone stuff, so the style's a bit foreign to me now. I was also majorly into Noelle Stevenson's art back then so a great deal of the visuals take after her. You're awesome, Noelle! (Please don't hurt me.)

Anyhow, we read The Odyssey and were assigned creative projects to do and these just kind of happened. No digital colouring because it's late / they look nice as-is? Mostly the first, though, if we're being honest.

Also it's been forever since Homer and I don't know what order they're supposed to be in anymore. The following descriptions are done from memory, so I apologise in advance for shoddiness.

I. Aeolus / Aiolos

Ruler of the winds. Gave Odysseus a bagful of the stuff to speed his journey home, but was not impressed when they fetched up in his court again sans bag and sans convincing explanation.

II. Charybdis / Kharybdis

Big swirly whirlpool monster. Fun to draw, not fun to be suspended above (I assume). Spot the naked Odysseus clinging to a convenient tree.

III. Laestrygonians / Laistrygonians

Shouty people. Rocks. Devastation. Odysseus' ship is the only one of his fleet to make it out intact, but it capsizes shortly afterwards under the weight of a class action lawsuit.

IV. Sirens / Seirenes

Pretty bird-ladies with a taste for flesh. Odysseus stopped everyone else's ears up with wax except for his own, then tied himself to the mast to hear them sing. It is too late for wit. Let me sleep.

Please, let me sleep.
